Plan residence in the Republic of Cyprus
Cyprus can be a starting point for a family relocation, an international business or an investment decision. A useful discussion begins by separating these objectives. Where do you want to live, what activity will you undertake and which status are you considering? This guide concerns the Republic of Cyprus; procedures for other territories cannot automatically be applied to the options described here.
LegalRegistr accepts enquiries about residence and permanent residence in Cyprus. Contact us with a selected basis or a request to compare appropriate options. Include nationality, current residence, income source and family composition. Available assistance and terms are confirmed individually before an order or the preparation of a complete document package.
Investor residence and the investment category
The official policy under Regulation 6(2) provides for consideration of third-country investors who meet its conditions. Categories include qualifying property, capital in an operating Cypriot company and certain investment funds. This does not mean that any apartment, share or company interest qualifies for an application.
For an initial enquiry, identify the category and why it interests you. If no property has been selected, say so. If considering a business, describe activity and the company’s actual presence. Before transferring funds, check the asset’s eligibility, transaction structure, evidence and continuing obligations. Commercial interest in an asset and compliance with residence policy require separate assessment.
Investment funds and household income
Capital for an investment and recurring income are different planning considerations. Beyond the asset itself, explain how the household would be supported after moving and what evidence is available. The official investor policy contains separate income requirements which also take family composition into account.
Describe the source of funds and type of receipts: employment, business activity, company distributions or other income. Do not rely on a commercial claim that the origin of funds need not be checked. Banking transactions and immigration materials can require a documented explanation. An initial description is sufficient; detailed financial records are exchanged later through an agreed process.
Property for a home and for an investment
If your Cyprus plan involves housing, distinguish the household’s needs from the requirements of the selected category. Explain the number of people moving, preferred location, school needs and intended use. Review documentation, property type and transaction eligibility rather than looking only at the price.
Do not sign solely on a seller’s promise of residence approval. Establish who will acquire the asset, how payment will be evidenced and which conditions must be maintained. A general guide cannot verify a property. Legal review of the purchase and the residence question should be addressed for the actual proposal rather than assumed to be included in an advertised price.
A Cypriot company and personal working rights
Creating or acquiring a company in the Republic of Cyprus may serve international operations but does not automatically grant personal residence. For a business investment category, compliance with its requirements matters more than a registration number. Describe actual operations, the applicant’s role and the proposed ownership structure.
Clarify separately whether you intend to take employment, manage a business or receive income as an investor. Rights and restrictions depend on the residence basis. A resident card should not be read as universal permission for all work or activity throughout the EU. Corporate questions can be discussed alongside relocation while retaining their separate legal meaning.
Family documents before applying
For a household plan, list participants, children’s ages and their relationships. Inclusion of relatives depends on the applicable conditions; a “whole family” description does not automatically cover every adult relative. Explain any later arrival before deciding the sequence.
Check the civil-status records already available and their issuing countries. Translation, certification, insurance and evidence are discussed for the chosen residence basis. School dates, existing permissions and travel plans can help shape a realistic schedule. You do not need to upload scans of all documents to make the first enquiry.
Obligations after residence is granted
Investor residence does not end with the issue of a document. The official policy requires evidence that the conditions continue to be maintained. Understand those obligations before choosing an investment. Clarify the relevant evidence and travel arrangements for your category before entering a transaction.
Changes in business, income or family composition may require further consideration. Build a plan that allows you to maintain the applicable conditions and supply relevant information on time. Instead of relying on a promise of permanent status without further action, decide how documents and continuing obligations will be monitored.
Permanent residence and Cypriot citizenship
The Cyprus Investment Programme for investor naturalisation closed on 1 November 2020. That fact is separate from available investor residence options. We do not offer a new Cypriot passport through the closed programme or present acquiring property as a guarantee of citizenship.
If you want to explore naturalisation in the future, raise that objective separately. Residence and citizenship have different conditions and outcomes. A number of years in an advertisement should not become a passport promise: the applicability of a particular procedure needs individual review. Begin with residence planning and identify the questions that matter first.
Tax and international business management
A personal move can affect income and obligations in more than one country. Residence permission and tax residence should not be treated as one document with identical consequences. Outline intended physical presence, company jurisdictions and payment sources. Ask separately if a particular tax treatment is central to your plan.
For a business, describe the location of the team, customers, contracts and actual management. Registering a Cypriot entity alone does not determine every tax consequence. Before restructuring income or moving functions from the previous country, discuss the applicable rules with an appropriate specialist. This guide does not promise universal tax savings.
Send an enquiry about your circumstances
For example: “We are considering Cyprus permanent residence for a couple and one child through a property option. Income comes from an overseas company. We want to understand family eligibility, documents and obligations to maintain status.” Add nationality, current residence, preferred timing and decisions already made.
LegalRegistr clarifies the request and confirms available assistance, documents, scope and fees before an order. Sharing information with a specific external specialist follows agreement on the recipient and purpose. An enquiry is not an official application and does not guarantee a government decision. Start in the main message field; passport copies and bank records are unnecessary at this stage.
