What to prepare

The Malta Business Registry (MBR) is the starting point for a Maltese incorporated company. Collect the full registered name and company number from the incorporation certificate or agreement. Do not assume the name of a tourism property, fund or brand identifies the company that signs the contract.

How to search the official register

Open the official MBR website and use its BAROS company search. Since August 2025 MBR requires sign-in to search and retrieve company information. Its published options include a Malta Government CORP account, Malta e-ID, eIDAS and Non-EU login; registration is free, while document access or orders can have separate conditions. We do not ask you to share your login credentials.

Interpret the result carefully

Compare the company number, registered name, date and address available to your account. If a counterpart sends a document instead of a searchable reference, ask which company number and period it relates to. Do not infer that a blank public result means a company never existed when you have not authenticated.

Which document do you need?

Explain whether a bank or buyer requires basic details, a filed document, a certificate of good standing or something else. MBR determines the product and conditions. For assistance, send the company number and describe the question, without passwords or login codes.

If a search is inconclusive

If BAROS asks for a login, use one of the methods named by MBR instead of trying third-party mirrors. A screenshot sent by a seller should be matched to the company number and checked within the authenticated service when possible. If access is unavailable, ask the sender for an official document and confirm which MBR product the receiving bank accepts.
