What to prepare
The Irish Companies Registration Office (CRO) holds records for companies, limited partnerships and business names. Those are not identical categories. A trading name may be registered without being a separate legal company. Before searching, copy the legal name and CRO number from the contract or incorporation document.
How to search the official register
Open CORE through the CRO service page. Enter the entity name or registration number in the search box and choose the right entity type. Compare the number, legal name, registered office and current details on the result. Then review the available submissions and identify the relevant filing or date.
Interpret the result carefully
A similar name is not enough to connect a website to its contracting entity. A CRO registration is also different from sector permission: if the project depends on a regulated activity, identify the competent regulator independently. A filing may describe what was submitted, not provide a full assessment of commercial risk.
Which document do you need?
For bank onboarding, clarify whether a simple CORE record, a particular filed document or a certified CRO product is expected. Access and any purchase conditions are set by CRO. Send the number and required document to discuss assistance.
If a search is inconclusive
If a business name appears without the company expected, examine the entity type in CORE and ask who actually owns the trading name. A limited partnership or another register category should not be mistaken for an LTD. In filings, note the period and submission date: an older annual return may not answer a request for present company details.
